Feeling nostalgic

I think I must be in need of a vacation, because I can't stop thinking about traveling.  Enough with this two weeks off a year business - it's completely for the birds!  My husband is from England and as you most probably know, like most civilized countries they get a minimum of like 30 days off a year.  I need to live in a country that values quality of life over corporate greed - this is just plain annoying!  :)

While I was dreaming up a scheme for life abroad (still in progress), I was looking at pictures of my last trip to Spain.  We always go back to the same village in the southern part because my husband's family has a place there - so lovely! I need to go back. Soon.

Such a simple and enjoyable way of life!

P.S. If anyone has some good ideas about living/working abroad I would love to hear them!!

  1. No advice, except to say I totally agree! My husband and I talk about this all the time. By the time we visit family vacation days are all depleted. I think people abroad really have it figured out, they work to live and here we tend to live to work.

  2. Absolutely agree. Our culture has it totally backwards. Love the blue doors! And the countryside is absolutely breath-taking! I can see why you love it so. And the only advice I have is if you can do it, GO!

  5. Gorgeous pics! I get nostalgic for places I've traveled to all the time. I've lived in both England and China, and some days I get really sad that I'm not living there anymore. My husband and I want to live abroad someday, and we're fortunate that his line of work would allow us to do that. He works in computer animation, and has friends in that field who have found jobs in lots of different countries - here's to hoping that will be us someday!

  9. Did you know that in the Netherlands, you do not need a VISA to live there. You can live there indefinitely without anyone kicking you out and telling you to go back home; the only condition is that you need to start a business of sorts. My friends have been living in Amsterdam for 2 years as a result; it's the only country in Europe that allows so!

  10. hey! I really really like the way and what you write!
i guess a vacation would be a great idea but where i come from (India, market research), work culture is at it's worst I think. We work all the time, including weekends and post-working hours. and the employee lobby (if there's any such thing) is extremely weak.
I also crave a good vacation.

    Anyhow, good luck.

  11. I read this quote that says: "the world is a book & those who do not travel read only a page" - by St. Augustine... I could use 30 days off a year. Sounds amazing!

  12. The simple way of life is what I long for...in a beautiful place such as SPAIN. I want to venture back to Europe myself and stay awhile!

Life is too short, we have to reach out and do what we want most!

31 everything: I love that quote.

  13. Oh Spain!! I so long to go there - it is my dream destination! I particularly want to visit the Prado because it's got the most amazing art!

I so know what you mean about holidays - we have four weeks off in Australia but it's not enough!! I heard in some countries you can have 6 weeks off! I think if you continue to explore the work/travel thing an idea will eventually present itself that you will just grab!!

  15. A vacation, what is that? I have not had a vacation in over 10 years. I am from the UK and it is true that the holiday leave here are very stingy. However, it does mean that you can usually get someone at an organisation the day after Christmas which is so handy because everything shuts down for 2 weeks at Xmas in the UK. In France the month of August is DEAD - almost everything is closed. EVERYONE is on holiday - can you imagine? How wonderful though! There are organisations that help people who are moving from abroad to settle into the new country for instance Spain and I believe a friend of mine does something like that in Barcelona. I could enquire if you want? Best, Frances

  17. Nothing to say about traveling abroad, but my girlfriend and i, along with our mutual friend, are selling everything we own and hitting the road! My girlfriend works online, my friend and i are starting an ecommerce website, and we are hoping to generate some gas money, etc. through our blogs via adsense and the like.

We plan to live in a state of perpetual vacationing indefinitely! If we can generate enough money, we plan to take it international and just travel travel travel. We want to see the world, and always thought we had to save up to do it, but if you plan it right, that can be how you make your living! lots of beauty ahead! For now it's kinda lame, but once we depart on sep 1 we will be updating regularly with stories, photos, blurbs and videos!
